“THE LAST SEED”, FILMVERTONING EN NABESPREKING MET ÉÉN VAN DE PRODUCERS, FAMARA DIEDHIOU (MET ENGELS ALS VOERTAAL)

Het gangbare wereldwijde voedselsysteem bereikt zijn grenzen en daarom zijn er ingrijpende veranderingen nodig. Tijdens het Food.Film.Fest - een filmfestival van Voedsel Anders, gedragen door lokale groepen, organisaties en vrijwilligers - zullen in veel Nederlandse en Vlaamse gemeenten films vertoond worden over hoe voedsel anders kan. Ook wij sluiten aan met de vertoning van “The Last Seed”.

“The Last Seed” (2022, Andréa Gema – Zuid-Afrika / Senegal / Tanzania / Zwitserland – 2022 – 77 min) toont de strijd van Afrikaanse boeren voor het behoud van hun voedsel-soevereiniteit en lokale biodiversiteit. De documentaire laat zien hoe de industrialisering van landbouw en de privatisering van zaden traditionele kennis, ecologisch evenwicht en de autonomie van boeren bedreigen. Afrikaanse boeren en experts gaan in het verweer en zetten voluit in op agro-ecologische praktijken om de toekomst van hun (en ons) voedsel te garanderen. Want wie de zaden controleert, bepaalt hoe er aan landbouw gedaan kan worden.

The conventional global food system is reaching its limits; therefore, significant changes are needed in the agri-food system. During the Food.Film.Fest - a film festival organized by Food Otherwise (Voedsel Anders), supported by local groups, organizations, and volunteers – documentaries will be screened in many Dutch and Flemish municipalities about how food can be different. We are joining in with the screening of ‘The Last Seed’.

"The Last Seed" (2022, Andréa Gema – South Africa / Senegal / Tanzania / Switzerland – 2022 – 77 min) shows the struggle of African farmers for the preservation of their food sovereignty and local biodiversity. The documentary illustrates how the industrialization of agriculture and the privatization of seeds threaten traditional knowledge, ecological balance, and the autonomy of farmers. African farmers and experts defend themselves and fully commit to agro-ecological practices to ensure the future of their (and our) food. Because those who control the seeds, determine how agriculture can be practiced.
